A research conducted by Pew Research Centre on the profile of new mothers from different regions found that new moms from top Asian countries are more educated, financially independent and likely to be married in comparison with the women of Latin America. While on the other hand less educated women face more poverty than highly educated ones and Indian women stand out higher on both in education and economic well-being.

87% new moms from India hold bachelor’s degree

In contrast with most of the countries it is observed that almost nine-in-ten (87%) Indian Moms have a bachelor’s degree. While approximately 50% women of Honduras, Mexico and Guatemala lack high school diploma. The report says, “The Indian case is particularly extreme – none of the other top sending countries come close in terms of the share of new moms with a bachelor’s degree.”

Indian Moms are financially well-established than the countries included in the research

New Moms from India are exceptionally good in education as well as in monetary terms, twice as high of U.S born mothers. They are financially well-established with an average annual income of $100,000 which is equal to 6668500 INR. Only 4% Indian moms are living in poverty while the percentage is 26% for U.S born mothers, living in poverty. For other countries such as Honduras, woman are less educated have higher poverty rates.

The report noted, “Incomes dip below $30,000 among new mothers from the remaining locations, and poverty is relatively high. Some 42% of new moms from Puerto Rico are living in poverty, while about half of those from Mexico (48%), Guatemala (48%) and Honduras (49%) are.”

Almost all Indian born mothers of newborns in the US were married

According to the data of National Centre for Statistics Data (NCHS), only 1% new moms were unmarried probably due to the fact that Birth outside marriage is uncommon in top Asian countries. While on the other hand more than half of births to women from Honduras are single mothers. The case is same with women from Latin American countries.
