India is a vast country with a colorful and refreshing diversity. Each part has its unique way of celebrating festivals. Because the panchangs i.e. Hindu Calendars differ according to the geographic location, each area of India has a unique twist to the traditional festivals.

In Gujarat, people celebrate the day after Diwali as the first day of the Bestu Varas or New Year. This is the first day of Kartik Month when the moon starts to show. The day of the New Year is also called Varsha-pratipada or Padwa in some places.

All the Hindu festivals are based on transits of planets and the Sun. Precisely for this reason, the time and day for celebrating a festival might differ for two cities and difference is quite noticeable for cities in different time zones.
